Thirty years ago, most surgery was performed in hospitals. Long waits for an appointment were not uncommon and patients typically spent several days in the hospital. A group of Baton Rouge orthopedic physicians saw an opportunity to establish a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to inpatient hospital care for orthopedic surgical services. Faced with frustrations like scheduling delays, limited operating room availability and other challenges, they believed that through self-governance and professional autonomy in the operation of the surgery center, their patients could be provided with better surgical care.
In the summer of 2006, Orthopedic Surgery Center opened its doors at 7301 Hennessy Boulevard with a state-of-the-art facility and equipment and a much needed, convenient alternative to traditional inpatient surgery for procedures such as joint replacement. Today, OSC boasts five operating rooms and includes a team of highly-dedicated and skilled medical professionals including a full-time, board certified anesthesiologist who oversees the work of a certified, registered nurse anesthetist on every single procedure. Our facility serves more than 6,000 surgical patients each year in the specialties of orthopedics, podiatry and pain management, is the only area surgery center to offer outpatient total joint replacement, and is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc.

ACCREDITATION
Orthopedic Surgery Center is licensed by the State of Louisiana and CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
Orthopedic Surgery Center has been accredited through AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care) since 2012. Accreditation distinguishes this surgical center from many other outpatient facilities by providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation. Status as an accredited organization means OSC has met nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care set by AAAHC and CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid). Ambulatory health care organizations seeking accreditation by AAAHC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by expert surveyors – physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory health care.
